Packing Peanut Art

Description

When we ship Customer Service Week materials, we use a lot of packing peanuts. That’s because we want to be sure that everything arrives in good condition. One of our long-time customers was looking for a fun and creative way to use the peanuts and shared this idea.

Materials

Packing peanuts
Water
Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners
CSW Scratchers for all participant

Directions

Divide your group into teams of two to three people. Provide each group with a supply of bio-degradable packing peanuts. Our peanuts are made from corn starch so they decompose in water. They are fun, safe, and made in the U.S.

Explain that participants will have two days to create a sculpture made entirely from packing peanuts. Two days will provide enough time to bring in extra materials from home if wanted.

Announce a theme such as animals, seasons, or one of your organization’s products or services (this option can be very funny.)

Next, demonstrate how the peanuts stick together. Simply dip the end of one peanut in water and press it into another peanut. That’s it.

When the work is completed, invite the group to view all of the sculptures. Announce the first, second, and third place winners or allow the group to vote for their favorites.

Discussion

As you view each sculpture, ask the team to explain their work and the process they used to arrive at the design.
